History of Midway
Midway, located in Wasatch County is located in Heber Valley which is about 3 miles west of Heber City. The city was originally established by fur trappers in 1824 who came to the area of what was then called upper Provo.
Midway was originally two small communities that were called Upper and Lower Settlements. When tensions with the local native population became detrimental to the two settlement’s safety, the towns agreed to create a fort that was midway between the two towns. The town later took its name from the fort, which was located midway between the two towns.
This region is known as the Wasatch Back. This part of the Rocky Mountain region is populous today but was not a highly-populated area at the time of the development of Midway. The area was originally a mining and agricultural area but has become a tourist location in recent years.
The charming town of Midway is home to Swiss Days and the outdoor winter ice rink, along with other artist-driven events throughout the year. Living in Midway provides the opportunity for amazing fine dining, theater, and outdoor activities!
